Newsworthy

1/29/10 - We've had some bad weather this year. We've had to close for Thursday, Jan 28 and Friday, Jan 29 due to poor road conditions. Saturday, 1/30 we will be open at noon.
Also, the Four.Zero.Five bouldering series originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan 30 has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb 6 at 8 pm.
12/29/09 - Rate changes made to website - these will go into effect on January 1. Download the most recent rate sheet here.
12/8/09 - We are entering the holiday season and it's getting chilly in here. But no matter - it's just good training for those epic cold weathered adventures!
We've posted some information about all the progress we've made over the past two years and some upcoming changes beginning January 1, 2010. All this information is posted here.
There are some new things being created at the gym - a multi-pitch route that tops-out on the silos and then goes for another 55 feet up the upper tower, for a total of 155 feet! yes, that makes us the tallest in the country.
Also, we are working on an outdoor "drytooling/ice climb." Not real ice - fake ice holds. It should be pretty fun. Both projects should be done within the next couple of weeks, weather pending of course.
The Oklahoma Climbing team is headed to their third bouldering competition of the season this weekend in Austin, TX. This is their last competition before Regionals in Iowa in January.
11/23/09 - Rocktown celebrated it's 2 year anniversary on November 5. Between OKC Rocks and now as Rocktown the gym has been here since 1999 - that's 10 YEARS and still climbing.
We are quickly working on some new projects including the re-introduction of a TWO-PITCH route. Some of you may recall there used to be a 2 pitch climb up the front of the building years ago. This route was exclusively reserved for select climbers so not very people got to experience it. The new 2 pitch route will require additional training and certification to climb due to added risks involved (such as rapelling) but it should be opened to more people. The climb will climb the east side of the building near the front entrance and top-out on the silos. The second pitch will continue up the SE corner (arete) of the upper tower for a soaring 155 foot climb!!! This will make us the tallest gym climbing route in the country - and one of the few that has true multi-pitch climbing.
We are also working on a "Drytooling" route. This will mimic ice climbing, mixed climbing and drytooling. We will have ice tools for rent and a short seminar/certification in order to climb the route. Again - just another expansion of opportunity to the gym.
We are looking forward to 2010 and have SO much more in store. Thanks for your continued support - and keep climbing!

We did it last year and we are doing it again this year; a training night for the 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell event! From 8:30 pm until midnight, members, 24HHH registrants and already belay-certified climbers can pay $8 and climb IN THE DARK. So bring your headlamp and be ready ready to climb late. It's not 24 hours but nighttime is when the real climbing begins so this is a good opportunity to practice.

This Sunday, March 15 and Monday, March 16, Rocktown Climbing Gym is hosting Arno Ilgner's Warrior's Way clinic. The Sunday class is already filled but there are still spots in the Monday class. If you would like to sign up you MUST register and pay at the gym prior to the class. Cost is $69 for Rocktown Members and $79 for non-members. The class on Monday is 6pm -10pm. This is the ONLY place in Oklahoma that is hosting (and to my knowledge, has ever hosted) the Warrior's Way clinic. This is limited opportunity and the only time this year to take advantage of this training.
The Warrior's Way® is a mental fitness training class that teaches how to focus attention during the climbing process, especially when one is full of doubt and under stress. By focusing this way one improves their commitment and climbs more deliberately. The class teaches people how to:
• Be more self aware
• Assess risks
• Practice falling in small increments
• Set intentions and commit deliberately
• Trust in the process
• Deal with climbing stress/chaos
• Improve problem-solving skills
• Reduce fear, and more

We are gearing up for our next Summer Camp which begins July 14. Our first camp, in June, was a great success so we are looking forward to another great week of climbing with the kids. Because our camps were so successfuly this year we will add additional camps next summer - so keep us in mind for next year and be sure to sign up early.
We've had quite a few questions about the Youth Climbing Team. We are working out the details but should have everything finalized soon and be ready to start somewhere between mid-August to early September for the upcoming Bouldering Competition season.
New construction on our group room in the south set of silos is coming along. Our anticipated date for opening the new rooms is by the end of August.
Those in the Everst Club are putting in their footage in their quest to climb the height of Everest. Some have already reached the 1 mile mark and will be getting their t-shirts soon. There's still time to dign up and participate in the Everest Club if you want to. It's only $20 and everyone who reaches the 1 mile mark (5280 ft) receives an Everest Club t-shirt.
6/1/08

Win prizes and get in shape! Today we are launching a new program - the Everest Club! The goal: to climb the height of Everest (29,035 ft) by climbing routes in the gym.
Here's how it works:
You climb routes and log the distance climbed each day. We will help you track all of your routes and at the end of the week post the results to show who is in the lead.
There are three checkpoints: the one mile marker (5280'), Base Camp (17,600'), and the summit of Everest (29,035').
Everyone who reaches the one mile marker will receive an Everest Club t-shirt. The first to reach Base Camp receives a FREE pair of CLIMBING SHOES! And for everyone who reaches the summit of Everest (by June 1, 2009) we will draw for a FREE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP to Rocktown!
This is a great way to build your endurance, stay in shape, and shoot for a goal. Plus, it's going to be a lot of fun. The cost to participate is $20. And like I said, those who hit the mile marker get a t-shirt - so chalk the cost up to that of a shirt and sign up today!
In other news - we have two SUMMER CAMP sessions for kids ages 5 - 13. The dates are June 23 - 27 and July 14 -18. Camp is from 1 - 3 pm each day. The cost is $75 for the week and includes a daily snack and a Rocktown t-shirt. Space is limited so sign up today.

Current climbing conditions in the gym: ALPINE. Yes, we are working on heating in the silos. The process is not easy - we are currently working with Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG) to have a gas line installed to facility. IF this is feasible we will then run lines to each silo and install radiant (infra-red) heaters in each silo. These heaters allow objects to be heated rather than air, which is perfect for our situation. This enables people to warm up while on the ground. We are keeping our fingers crossed that everything will fall in line and allow us to have heat sometime this winter. In the meantime, just imagine you're climbing in the Alps. Once you start climbing it's not so bad anyway.
Just added - a Google Groups page for Rocktown climbers. Visit it and register to sign-in.
