GUIDED CLIMBING BROCHURE

OUTDOOR CLIMBING TRIP WAIVER

Courses / Outings

Climbing 101 - Suitable for first-time climbers or novice outdoor climbers who want to climb in a safe and responsible manner while learning the basics of climbing outside. No experience necessary, great for families, corporate retreats, youth groups etc. Guides will set-up top-ropes and teach some basic climbing and safety skills. This is a great opportunity for either a first experience climbing outside, or for those that don't get to make it outside that often. The climbs we do will generally be on the easier end of the rating scale (5.5 - 5.8) but we may setup one or two challenging routes, based on the need. This trip focuses exclusively on climbing, getting people on the rock, and does not cover the details on anchor or top-rope setups, rappelling, etc.

Climbing 201 - Intermediate level climbing course. If you enjoed your introduction to climbing and you're ready to take it up a notch on some more challenging climbs then this is the course for you. In this course we also go into more detail about climbing and belay systems and intermediate to advanced climbing techniques.

Anchor Basics - Introduces the fundamentals of anchoring for the purposes of setting up top-ropes, top-belays, ground anchors and rappel stations.

Learning to Lead - You're ready for the next level - lead climbing - and this is how you get there. This course covers the fundamentals of placing pro, reading the rock, and making your way up on the sharp end.

Private Guiding - Looking for some one-on-one climbing instruction or just a day out in the wild climbing whatever you want? Our private guiding is perfect for day trips.

Girls Rock - Just what the ladies want - climbing without the guys! Here's your chance to have a fun day on the rock with some other ladies and lead by a female instructor!

Rock and Yoga - Combining the elements of nature, climbing and yoga. This is an interactive course that gets you in touch with the rock, your surroundings, and in balance with yourself. Enjoy a new perspective in this outdoor experience which combines rock climbing and yoga. (Team taught, additional fees may apply.)

Low-Impact and Environmentally Responsible Guiding Policy

The Rocktown guiding program has a cooperative effort with the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Management and has set forth a number of self-governing proactive policies to ensure the protection of the Refuge through minimizing impact.

  • Keep group size low - we keep our group size to no more than 10 climbers and a possible 2 guides. This means our maximum group size will never exceed 12 - in most cases we will be at 10 or below. This means less impact to trails, less disturbance to other visitors and wildlife.
  • Open communication with the Refuge about our schedule and guiding locations.
  • Maintain best safety practices, training, and site management.
  • Consistently abide by Leave-No-Trace (LNT) principles.
  • We are a supporter of the Access Fund in protecting climbers rights.
